General Area of Research: Clinical Pharmacology/Clinical Psychopharmacology

Pharmacotherapy of Alcoholism and Drug Dependence/Toxicity of Psychoactive Drugs/Geriatric Psychopharmacology/Pharmacotherapy of Mood Disorders

Our research can be grouped into the following: 1) Pharmacotherapy of drug dependence. Projects are aimed at identifying and evaluating efficacy and mechanisms of pharmacotherapies for alcoholism and drug dependence; 2) Toxicity and treatment outcome of psychoactive drugs: Projects assess: a) clinical relevance and mechanisms of psychoactive drug interactions (with an emphasis on isozyme specific interactions), b) fuzzy logic theory and applications to pharmacology [e.g., new modelling pharmacokinetics/ pharmaco-dynamics techniques; assessment of treatment outcome (e.g. efficacy, adverse drug reactions)] c) methods for assessing adverse drug reactions; 3) Geriatric Psychopharmacology: evaluations of mechanisms and pharmacotherapy of dementia and behavioural disorders associated with dementia; 4) Pharmacotherapy of Mood Disorders: Projects assess: a) neurobiological mechanisms of depression; b) predicting patterns of response to antidepressants and mood stabilizers.
