Visions in Pharmacology Research Day

VIP 2019 PosterThe Pharmacology Graduate Students’ Association (PGSA) is happy to announce that registration to the 2019 Visions in Pharmacology (VIP) research day is now open!

This year, our distinguished lecturer is Dr. Laura Bohn from the Scripp Research Institute-Florida who will be giving a talk about her research on Biased Opioid Ligands - separating analgesic potency from several side effects of opioids. The event is being held on Friday, June 21st from 9:00am-5:00pm in the Hart House Great Hall.
 
The deadline to register for VIP is May 24, 2019.
The deadline to submit abstracts is May 17, 2019.

For undergraduate and graduate students:
As students of the Pharmacology graduate program you have the opportunity to: (1) submit an abstract for a poster presentation, (2) submit an abstract for an oral presentation, (3) submit an abstract for 3-minute thesis (3MT) or (4) just attend to see what your student counterparts have been researching for their theses. Please indicate how you will be participating in this year’s VIP during your registration.
 
(1) Poster presentations will take place 9:30AM to 12:00PM and posters must fit on a board that is 6' wide and 3' tall.
 
(2) Oral presentations begin at 12:00PM. We are looking for 3 students to give oral presentations. Oral presentations will be 15 minutes in length, with a 5 minute question period.
Third-year PhD students may also use this presentation to fulfill their PhD Mid-Point Seminar degree requirement. Any third-year students who would like to do so should contact and obtain approval from Dr. Peter McPherson, the Graduate Coordinator, before submission. Please indicate this on the registration page under the “Presentation Title” field.
 
(3) Three-minute thesis (3MT): This year, the last 15 minutes of the student seminar will be dedicated to 3MT. We are looking for 5 students who are up for the challenge to present their doctoral research in three minutes (one PowerPoint slide) in an engaging and compelling way. The 3MT abstract may be nominated for a full oral presentation.
 
For faculty members, research associates, post-doctoral fellows, and staff:
We are looking for faculty members, research associates, post-doctoral fellows, staff and senior graduate students who are in the process of defending to act as judges for the poster and oral presentations. You may sign up as a judge during the registration process and you will be asked to indicate your field of expertise. We will notify all participants once the details are finalized. Also, we will make the abstracts available in advance for those who would like to read them.
 
Poster presentations: Judges will be assigned to judge posters based on the number of abstracts submitted. We will try our best to match your field of expertise to that of the posters.
 
Oral presentations/3MT: We are looking for 3 faculty members to judge oral presentations taking place at 12:00PM.

About the PGSA

As a student-run organization, we do our best to keep graduate students and faculty members connected through the organization of a number of philanthropic, research-related, and social events. VIP is a research day that allows students in the department to showcase their research to fellow students as well as faculty members. VIP also provides the opportunity to learn about the interesting research of the selected keynote speaker. Previous distinguished lecturers include: Dr. Edythe London (2018), Dr. Peter Van Loo (2017), Dr. Terry Kenakin (2016), and Dr. Linda Dwoskin (2015).
